The students of OOU today embarked on a protest today as a result of the death of their colleagues, who died in a Motor Accident numbering about 12 students on Friday 26th of June 2015. The accident which was caused by a container of a  Rubber/Plastic Factory that fell on the bus conveying the students.

OOU SUG had earlier planned on going to the Governor of Ogun State Office to protest, but after due consultations they decided to take their protest the Company and the driver that caused the accident.

The students converged around their campus early in the morning and left for the scene of the accident In company of the students were the ASUU chairman Olabisi Onabanjo University,University Staffs,men of the Nigeria Police among others.

On getting to the site where the accident occurred the students found the container that caused the accident, which made them very angry, but the Student Union President of OOU by the name Malcomzy told the students to be patient as they didn’t come to cause violence. The SUG President took time to address all students present informing them of the outcome of the meeting. And some of which are:

(1)That the company be given a seven days ultimatum to produce the said driver who drove the affected truck.

(2)That the company should pay a sum of 10million naira each to families of the deceased among others.

Three minutes silence was observed for the victims of the accident, the SUG President met with the Press to reinstate tgat they were going to be observing a peaceful protest.

Some of the Leaders of ASUU OOU chapter and NANS asked the students not to be violent, as they have asked the company to provide the driver of the truck within 7 Days. The students on getting to the location of the company that owns the Container, saw that the company that were still going about like nothing happened, this aggravated the students, which led to full out violence.

The students broke glasses from the company’s truck and damaged the properties of the company.

The SUG later stopped the students and the protest was ended.
